Bill McBride, Julia Fabris McBride, and Karl Rohlich purchased Matfield Station in 2001. The historic Santa Fe building was “one good rain away” from collapse, and they couldn’t stand to see the bunkhouse disintegrate. Bill, the architect, worked with a friend Pat Moss, the carpenter, to restore the building. Julia and Karl cheered on the project.
Making the big leap and moving to Kansas (from Chicago) in 2006, Bill and Julia lived at Matfield Station while their house was built just 400 feet from the bunkhouse. Their son Luke was born in 2007. Karl lives at Matfield Station welcoming and orienting newly arrived artists and your families. We all love the views, open space and fresh air, horses across the road, Flint Hills sunsets, and wind on the prairie.
Experience the serenity. Open your art to the influence of this deeply beautiful place we call home.
